High-rise offices in Coal Harbour, heritage conversions in Gastown, and expansive distribution centres along Kent Avenue all rely on rooftop HVAC equipment that eventually reaches end-of-life. Eco Metal Recycling provides turnkey removal, craning and sustainable disposal of these units across the City of Vancouver and the wider Metro region.
Permits & Compliance for Rooftop Unit Removal
- Building permit required – Any structural change or equipment removal on private property must be covered by a City of Vancouver Building Permit and meet the Vancouver Building By-law for life-safety and energy standards.
- Refrigerant recovery – All ozone-depleting and halocarbon gases are evacuated by an HVAC R technician in accordance with B.C.’s Ozone Depleting Substances and Other Halocarbons Regulation before the unit is lifted from the roof.
- Fall-protection – Crews are “Working-at-Heights” certified and follow WorkSafeBC Part 11 fall-protection rules when installing bump lines, anchors and lifelines on flat or sloped roofs.
